- He started taking photos when he was 8 years old with a Kodak "Lady Carefree" and his Dad's Paxette.
- In his early twenties he worked as a trader on the floor of the Toronto Stock Exchange before leaving to pursue photojournalism.
- Russ has studied Philosophy at University of Toronto and has a BFA in Cinema from Concordia University.
- He has been fingerprinted twice by the RCMP, once to adopt from China and once to photograph the Queen.
- A strong believer in community, he volunteers his services to The City of Toronto Parks & Rec, The Toronto District School Board, The Toronto Humane Society, OPIRG, and many other organizations.
